The property around the Cannon Hall pub, left for derelict over
a year ago, has been the target of fly tipping and petty youth crime
for many months. Adding to this urban decay is the ex - Esso petrol
station, which stood next to the Cannon Hall. It too has now been
discarded without notice or warning to the community it served...
Woodside:
wavy roof houses to go
All
of Woodside estate, including the distinctive wavy-roofed (or ‘upside
down’) houses, is to be demolished this autumn, following
a Sheffield City Council cabinet decision on 18 September...
Verdon
Street Still In Trouble
Many voices
in and around Verdon Street are still shouting for things to change,
but shouts are all that seem to take place as the future of both
Verdon Street Recreation Centre and The Furnival Café are
presently in some doubt...
Celebration
– Mat Tatlow – 1946-2002
Mat
Tatlow, longstanding contributor to the Burngreave community, died
on August 12th after a 6 month illness with pancreatic cancer. Established
as one of Sheffield’s foremost regeneration architects, Mat
will be remembered by many in Pitsmoor...
Monster
rubbish burner given go ahead
Objectors
repeatedly expressed deep concern over dangers posed by plans to
build an incinerator to burn twice as much rubbish as the current
Bernard Road plant. Planning chief Howard Baxter admitted concern
over nitrogen dioxide levels, but Health Authority expert Rosie
McNaught
insisted there is no evidence that emissions pose any danger to
health – because no research has been done on the subject.
Objectors, and some councillors, argued if there’s no evidence
it’s safe, it shouldn’t be built...
Eviction
- the only solution?
It’s
tough living near to families with children who cause damage, commit
crimes and terrify their neighbours, especially when they recruit
others into gangs. Labelled ‘neighbours from hell’,
other residents just want them out...

over the next three years, on council land and, subject to consent,

Four
year funding approved
This month the New Deal Partnership Board approved our four year
proposal and we are advertising four jobs (see insert) for the new
Messenger team that will begin in December.
AGM - All welcome!
At our third AGM on October 19th, 1pm (food from 12.30) at Abbeyfield
Park House we will be deciding on a new constitution and becoming
a limited company.
Hope to see you there!
