Executive
Directors Update
Hi,
as promised last time there is some positive news to report this
month.
From
Monday 7th October 2002 New Deal will be located on the first floor
of 12-14 Burngreave Road in the premises of Burngreave Community
Action Trust.
I am grateful
to BCAT for making this space available to us and am sure it will
further strengthen the relationship we have with them.
On the 14th
October four local residents begin their employment as Regeneration
Apprentices with Burngreave New Deal for Communities and they will
work closely with the New Deal Theme Managers to develop and deliver
projects in response to the aspirations of local people.
Other projects
that have been supported by New Deal are:
- Sports Development:
which will increase the participation of young people in recreation
and maximise the use of local facilities.
- Pitsmoor
Adventure Playground: which has now re-opened with new play facilities
and significant improvements to those that already existed.
- Green Environment:
which will employ and train local people to maintain and improve
parks and green spaces within Burngreave.
There will be
many more important, interesting and fun initiatives being developed
in the future. If you want to be involved in deciding what they
are please contact BCAT on 272 8008 or New Deal on 279 6932 and
we will tell you how you can shape the future of Burngreave.
Since I have
been in Burngreave I have met with many people, groups and organisations
in the area, however, I am aware that there will be people who have
still not had a chance to meet with me to express their views and
opinions about Burngreave New Deal for Communities. Therefore, for
the next three months I am putting aside one day each week to meet
members of the community, this will be an ideal opportunity for
people, organisations and groups to speak openly, honestly and directly
to me regarding:
- Your experiences
with Burngreave New Deal for Communities
Any concerns or issues you may have
Any item(s) you feel the programme should prioritise
If you would
like to meet with me, and have not already done so, then please
do not hesitate to contact Jane Anthony on 279 7161 who will be
happy to arrange this with you.
John Clark,
Executive Director
