HOLA
– again
by Carrie Hedderwick
This
is a follow up to my appeal in the May Burngreave Messenger
for sponsorship for the Moncada Day Cycle Challenge around Cuba.
Muchas, muchas
gracias to all supporters!
Financial backing,
cycling advice, salsa instruction – I got all that I asked
for and more. I am especially grateful for the tremendous enthusiasm
of the group of local friends who organised the Ski Village Disco,
the raffle and quiz. It was a really good, and funding- rich, night.
The grand total raised was $1,456.40
The ride was
around the western tobacco-growing end of the island, running down
on the Carretera Central, the old market trading route. We turned
north to the Vinales valley and on up to the Gulf of Mexico. The
return section was a series of long, steep climbs and finally we
visited the Children’s Hospital in Havana and handed over
hundreds of asthma inhalers for use across the island.
