The Woodside Update
In the aftermath

Plans for Woodside immediately after the demolition are being made. The Council is under some pressure to make the plans, have them agreed by the community and implemented by the end of March 2004 so that Housing Market Renewal funding can be used.

Map showing plans for the area, including a children's play area and green spaces of grass and wildflowers.

Above is the planned map of the area which includes play areas, seating and green spaces. Sheffield Wildlife Trust are hoping to plant wild flower meadows, instead of grass, to attract wildlife to the area. The roads and street lighting will be left in as services running underneath the streets are still in use.

The plans have been shown to the New Deal Environment Theme Group, who had no objections. They will soon be taken to Woodside Demolition Project Group where residents living nearby will get their say.

If you would like to comment on the plans, or you would like to see a more detailed map, you can contact Burngreave Housing office on 203 9349, before the end of November.

Council ideas for Woodside*

Seating area’s where people can admire the fantastic views over the city

Refurbishment or enlargement of the existing children’s adventure playground.

Green spaces to be planted with grass including waves of wildflowers inter-planted with a variety of low maintenance long grasses, designed to be enjoyed at close quarters whilst also being viewed from across the city.

Possibly a narrow band of native woodland planting at the bottom end of the site along Pye Bank Road to attract wildlife into the area, located in a position where personal safety isn’t compromised, and giving credibility to the name Woodside.

Temporary road closures at Pye Bank Close and Andover Drive designed to prevent access by cars and other vehicles.

Knee rails around open space boundaries, designed to be a deterrent to joy riders.

Existing street lighting to be maintained.

*Subject to available funding and future phasing programmes.
