Appeal for Volunteers
I went down to visit Joy Huculak in her office and she explained
to me a little about the NSPCC's new drive to recruit independent
volunteers as role models and child advocates.
Part of this
initiative will be to recruit people representing the true diversity
of young children living in the care of Sheffield's local authority
homes and establishments.
"Many of
the vulnerable children are from residential units across the city,
others are in foster care," Joy explains, "What we need
is local people reflecting the diversity of under represented cultures
to help these young children address fears of alienation. We need
to reach Burngreave people who have the time, true commitment and
energy to become a volunteer. These vulnerable children need guidance,
support and friendship."
This appeal
is for people who can help build a trusting relationship with those
who don't experience cultural belonging, who lack confidence and
self esteem. All expenses and full training accredited by the Open
College Network are both sponsored by the NSPCC.
