I am
the newly appointed Enterprise and Employment Theme Manager.
I was born in
Pakistan and came to live in Sheffield at the age of eight. I studied
at the local schools, Firshill and Firth Park and after completing
my sixth form education, I attended at Hallam university to read
Engineering with Business Studies.
I have developed
a strong bond with Burngreave and it’s people. The bond is
so great that after finishing my formal education I found it very
difficult to move house even for the purpose of employment. My working
career comprises of a Police Officer with the South Yorkshire Police,
lecturer with Parkwood College (Sheffield College) to develop and
teach on The Asian Access Course which later on was relaunched to
cover all BME communities. This was followed by over six years of
work experience with regeneration programmes through SPAT-C, BCF,
Black CARD and Black Communities Development programme (SY).
I have chosen
to work for Burngreave New Deal having been involved in regeneration
initiatives for many years and I believe I have a lot to offer to
Burngreave and its people. The area has given me so much in terms
of childhood memories, living with my family and friends, educated
and worked in the area and it is time I gave something BACK!
It is the job
of Enterprise and Employment theme group to lower the unemployment
and to raise the household income. Employer involvement is crucial
in bringing about job opportunities into the area and we will actively
seek to audit the employers’ needs and to ensure that training
and job vacancies are directly linked to ensure the right skills
mix.
I believe the
people of Burngreave have a lot of potential and are aspiring to
get good jobs. We at the BNDfC want to encourage appropriately developed
training programmes, encourage employers to provide skills training,
provide job seeking and career development, support to increase
the prospect of finding good quality jobs.
