Working with the community

Eight local people have now started work as Community Wardens - identifying anything which could be making life less than pleasant for people in the area and making sure something gets done to sort it out.

Whether it's reporting flytipping, broken streetlights, graffiti, organising litter removal, or reporting abandoned cars, for example, the Burngreave Community Wardens based at 47 Spital Lane, are keen to help out.

The wardens will also be working very closely with the Anti Social Behaviour Team, the environmental service, Streetforce and the various agencies and organisations in Burngreave who have similar aims.

The wardens are also keen to build a good relationship with the local schools and to work closely with parents and children on a number of future projects such as organising litter picks and environmental awareness projects. One problem already highlighted by local schools is the parking too close to the school gates, causing danger to children leaving the school - the wardens have been able to help by explaining to parents the better places to park.

Please approach the wardens and have a chat as you see them patrolling in the area. If you need to phone there is a 24 hr answer phone - 272 5057 and we would love to hear from you.

The Community Warden scheme will also be having a launch afternoon on Monday 1st March at Verdon Street Recreation Centre - between 2pm to 6pm. We invite you to call in for a cuppa, a biscuit and a chat and look forward to seeing you then.
