Dear Burngreave Messenger,

I would be interested to know what your readers think about an open air-market on Ellesmere Green. I’m convinced that there are many people from a wide range of cultures here with the talent to produce and sell arts and crafts or food grown locally. The Burngreave festivals have proved successful, why not have one every week!

The markets in Castlegate are going to be re-located to the bottom of the Moor, making them less accessible, so again there is an opportunity to create an alternative. Ambitious? Yes, but it could become sustainable with enthusiasm and planning.

Residents in Parson Cross have access to Monteney Workshops with some excellent resources, including Leather craft, Weaving looms, Printing etc. Now the Vestry Hall has the green light it would seem an ideal opportunity for it to include workshops to make some of the above. (Surely we have enough computers in the area now).

If a visit was arranged people would be able to see first hand the really high quality of crafts produced. If anyone is interested I can be contacted on 2967652.

Yours sincerely, John Lawson.
