Dear Messenger,
I read with interest
your artivle on Burngreave Community Action Trust (BCAT:
"It's business as usual...") and the background to
BCAT Director's (Lynne Hoy) resignation. As a former longstanding
member of BCAF/BCAT I feel it is important to shed light on happenings
within the organisation through the eyes of trustees/directors.
As a vice-chair at BCAT
(1999-2001) and interim Chairperson of BCAT (Oct-Dec 2002) when
I took on some responsibility of the vacant Director's post at the
time I can sympathise and understand what Lynne Hoy must have gone
through.
On a positive, one particular
recollection of mine was filling in the PCM License application
to the Radio Authority. Due to my childcare issues I had my son
fast asleep in my lap as I was writing (not typing) the application!
All the staff at BCAT - especially both Kates, Mai, Georgina and
others were brilliant in helping to look after my son. This unimportant
event was the key to PCM Radio getting a license a in March/April
2001 and has inspired others (including myself) to go for a more
permanent Radio Station through BCR and BNDfC Radio Group.
Furthermore, people like
Donovan Modest (now Acting Director of BCAT) have diligently contributed
from behind the scenes.
To conclude, I'm in agreement
with Peter Smith (former chair of BCAT): "that BCAT is always
learning and developing from past experiences". It is better
to be pro-active and have foresight of the current and future pitfalls
in shaping a better and prosperous future for everyone.
