Spotlight on Abbeyfield Park - by Gaby Spinks.
The leylandii hedge which divides the park have been removed.

Other news from the park

Tree planting and maintenance have been started by the Green Environment Programme and the Community Forestry Project...

People will have noticed the disappearance of the massive leylandii hedge that cut the Park in half. Now there is more light and security to the Park and its users.

The Burngreave Rangers have been renovating two original benches and the playground equipment has just been painted and looks a lot brighter. Thank you to all the volunteers, Green City Action and the Burngreave Rangers for their time.

A spending freeze means jobs due to be done by the Council will be delayed until the Spring, including work on the football pitches and replanting the rose beds.

Tree-mendous Trees
On Sunday December 7th, the Forestry Project planted a new Horse Chestnut tree to replace one that had to be cut down due to disease. The Rangers decorated a tree and helped people make decorations to take away. The Friends of Abbeyfield Park were there asking people to get involved with rejuvenating the Park and showing plans for the new play equipment.

Trees from ‘One World’
During the planting season the Rangers will be celebrating the rich cultural diversity of Burngreave with a 'One World' planting. They will be planting trees native to the countries and cultures represented in the area.

The Forestry Project is also compiling a collection of stories and myths about trees and woodlands from around the world. Have you got a story to tell? The Forestry team would love to hear from you.
