Sports
leaders for Burngreave
The Community Sports Leader Award is
a course designed to train community workers to
include more people in sporting activities. Burngreave
Sports Project is running the course and six people
have already qualified, with nine more training.
Katy
Burnett of the Sports Project told the Messenger,
“The course is very practical, but you don’t
need to be good at sport, it’s about gaining
the skills to involve others.”
Participants learn about leading sessions, organizing
events and about tailoring sessions for specific
needs, as well as developing leadership skills.
Graduates of the first course were Aislinn Adams,
Cathy Everard, Errol Edwards, Amir Shah, Mink
Naylor and Russell Fowler – all of whom
are using their new skills in Burngreave-based
projects.
“This course appeals to all, whether you’re
sporty or not,” said Becky Kay, currently
on the course.
