Look
out Ellesmere!
Over the next few weeks, people
living in the Ellesmere area can expect a visit from teams of Community
Learning Assistants – part of the Community Learning Campaign
team who are working hard to encourage local people back into learning.
More than 150 local people are already
in touch with the Community Learning Campaign workers, who are helping
them find out about adult learning courses, especially courses that
are due to start after the summer holidays.
The team has been helping people fill
in enrolment forms, going with them to sign up for courses and generally
helping them with any difficulties that are stopping them getting
back into learning. The team has also been responding to local demand
and getting some new courses started in the area. The first one,
a short Playwork Course run by the Out of School Network attracted
fifteen participants, most of them local.
A major focus so far has been the Carwood
area where a new community meeting room will soon be opened. The
team has been out and about on the estate, finding out from local
people about what they’d like to see on offer in the new community
room. The results of the survey will be reported to the local
tenants and residents association, ASTRA, and we hope to see some
new and exciting courses starting in the area very soon.
If you are not at home when we call, or if you want to know about
adult learning courses starting in September, why not get in touch?
