| Sewing Classes For Women |
Women’s sewing classes began this week at Verdon Recreation Centre and will initially run until September 2003. Beginning at 9am and closing at 3pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. This initative is supported by Skills Choice and organised by Tahira Begum who explains that the classes are open to women of all ages and that a crèche facility is going to be provided in the near future, allowing parents with small children to get involved. Kung Fu Class at St James |
Invited to St James Church I was privy to see members of the resident Kung Fu sessions displaying their newly-acquired punch and kick pads. The organizer of the regular Tuesday and Thursday sessions explain that the pads came from fundraising done by Saleema Imam and Betty Smalley. Their contribution to this initiative is helping to keep young children of the community physically active for two evenings per week. | Yorkshire Care doing Business In The Community |
Pamela Lee, regional director of Yorkshire Care, explains her initiative is to promote responsible practice by helping local businesses and employers to provide and improve work in inner cities. “This is already been done in Bradford and Hull” explains Pam. The fundraising events, allowing this to happen, continue to show that people do care about the inner cities and its communities. The repair of Verdon Street garden, initiated by administrator Mink Naylor and carried out by Yorkshire Care and supported by our local Chamber of Commerce and Business in the Community. This, Pam hopes, will be leading the way in helping to build and entice other local and regional companies to take part.
