Family Support Workers
Post1: Somali speaking Ref: B101/01/2003
post2: Arabic speaking Ref: B101/02/2003
post 1 & 2: Part-time, permanent (18.8 hours p/w)
post 3: Full time, permanent Ref: B101/03/2003
£14,040 - £15,957 p.a. (pro-rata for part-time)
We are looking for a fluent Somali speaker, a fluent
Arabic speaker and one Family Support Worker with no specific foreign
language skills who have substantial social care training, a knowledge
of child protection policies and experience of working with children
and families who are undergoing difficulties and stress.
Reporting to the Family Support Manager, you will
manage a caseload of eight or more families, delivering parenting
skills and working in partnership with other agencies to prevent
children being taken into care or placed on the child protection
register wherever possible. You will also concentrate on finding
ways of engaging 'hard-to-reach' families, as well as conducting
assessments and other one-off duties as required. Some out of hours
work will be necessary.
In addition, you will participate in the Sure Start
programme itself, attending team meetings, appraisals, training
workshops and other events, bringing your professional expertise
to bear on a wide variety of issues from staff development to evaluation
of the programme.
Parental Involvement Workers
2 posts: Part-time, permanent
22 hours per week
£12,291 - £14,040 p.a. pro-rata Ref: B101/04/2003
If you have professional or voluntary experience of
working with local parents and children - and you're the sort well-organised
person who enjoys working on their own initiative - this role could
suit you perfectly. You will ensure that parents are aware of the
Sure Start programme and become actively involved with it as volunteers
or participants in our events, news groups, publicity and other
activities.
Having encouraged volunteers to step forward, you
will take part in their induction, training, supervision and appraisal,
arranging crèche facilities when needed and acting as an
advocate for parents within the Sure Start programme.
To succeed, you will need to be a natural people-person
and communicator, with some basic computer skills and an understanding
of child protection issues. We particularly welcome applications
from men, as they are under-represented in this area of work.
Administrators (2 Posts)
Full time, permanent
£12,91 - £14,040 p.a. Ref: B101/05/2003
Although your work will primarily be administration,
typing, filing, minute-taking and reception duties, this is very
much a team job, where you will need to build relationships with
a wide variety of colleagues as well as the Management Board, parents
groups, parents, children and visitors to the offices. You will
therefore need to be a friendly, confident and welcoming type of
person, as well as being and experienced administrator with a good
knowledge of Microsoft Office and word processing skills to RSA
II or equivalent.
Good time management skills and knowledge of the local
community will be essential; knowledge of social care and diversity
issues would be useful.
