Start – Watch this Space Many in the community will be aware that it has not been an easy time recently for Burngreave and Fir Vale Sure Start. With no permanent director in place for some months, much of Sure Start’s spending has stopped or is being reviewed, including grants to local child care providers and free stair gates. A grant to a parents group at Firs Hill School was recently turned down due to the school being outside the Burngreave Sure Start area, even though almost all the children attending live in the area. A new Director of Burngreave and Fir Vale Sure Start, Amanda Boughton-Brown takes up post this month. Amanda was previously Director of Refugee Lifeline. The Messenger feels sure that Amanda will have the best wishes of the many parents and workers in the area who are committed to making Sure Start a success as she takes up her new post. The Messenger hopes to interview Amanda next month.
