Dear Messenger,
I have to take rappers, breakdancers,
singers and songwriters to perform at Memorial Hall, Crucible
Studio/Theatre and outside Sheffield, when I could have used
all this to pump money back into to our area. The creative/cultural
industry is one of the fastest growing industries and we have
the talent in Burngreave but we lack vision.
True, not all ideas can go into Vestry Hall,
but it is foolish to say that Vestry Hall is the focal point
and then use it for learning experience. People need to have
a learning experience in Sorby House, Spectrum Centre and
other centres and bring it all back into the Vestry Hall to
showcase, and people in and out of Sheffield will pay to watch
and see. Such monies can be pumped back in to Vestry Hall
to pay for Burngreave artists that can’t afford art
space, that need a focal point to exhibit their work. It can
also be used to film such performance and that prepares for
future film producers, scriptwriters, and the place for future
art directors.
Schools would pay for the opportunity to perform
in a community theatre that has amazing acoustic sound and
architectural structure. Rappers, hip hop culture, drama aimed
at giving positive messages and many of our youths have stories
to tell and need to be engaged. You can promote education
that way and have it sustainable because it bridges with business
enterprise.
The creative arts is a growing industry, bigger
than you can imagine and we’re talking about a learning
centre? We’re tired of projects to tick boxes! We want
vision!
