Divided city
Figures recently published by health
services show Burngreave still tops the Sheffield tables for
deprivation, and the wealth gap between Sheffield neighbourhoods
is wider than ever.
The study, which compared 2003 Council benefit
levels, showed Burngreave and Woodside in the five most deprived
neighbourhoods, alongside Darnall, Manor and Stubbin/Brushes.
Although overall Sheffield levels of Income
Support have reduced, the gap between the most affluent (0.5%
on benefits) and the poorest (42% on benefits) widened last
year for the first time since 1996.
