Go for Netball
On 18th March five Burngreave teams joined
five teams from Handsworth and Darnall in a fiercely
contested competition that saw some excellent
displays of junior netball. Whiteways, St Joseph’s,
Pye Bank and Byron Wood made the semi finals and
St Joseph’s beat Pye Bank 3–1 in the
final.
The Burngreave Sports Project, in partnership
with South Yorkshire Sport and the Arches Project,
has been running coaching sessions for Y5–Y6
girls in local schools for nearly three months.
Over 30 girls had played in two sets of friendly
fixtures at Fir Vale School before the recent
festival.
Those involved have now been invited for further
coaching at Fir Vale’s new Netball Development
Centre led by level 2 netball coach Katy Burnett.
This centre is supported by several local volunteers
who are working towards their coaching awards.
Sessions are held at Fir Vale sports Centre on
Wednesdays 5–6pm and are open to all Y5–Y8
girls at a cost of 50p per session. If you are
a budding netballer, come along to a session or
contact Katy on
0790 993 6381 for further information.
If you have an interest in this sport and wish
to become involved as a coach, manager or other
role then please get in touch with Katy…
she would love to hear from you!
