Burngreave Juniors battle to success

Sunday 4th January and Burngreave Juniors took on Brampton Rovers of Chesterfield, a team who have been established since 1966.

The bright winter sunshine and a muddy Petre Street pitch meant excellent conditions for the nation's favourite game, even at this junior level. Having been watched the previous week by Sheffield United senior scouts, our Burngreave Juniors team were on top form.

Kicking off at 11am the first match saw the organisation and experience of Brampton take a 3 goal lead. "This was overturned in the second half of the second match by sheer determination as Burngreave Juniors hit back with three goals, drawing the game to a nail-biting score draw," explained team manager Brian Hilton.

The team are being watched by Sheffield Wednesday scouts and one player is currently training at the Sheffield Wednesday Academy.

"Burngreave Juniors under 7s will be 8 this year, so we will be enrolling for new under 7s, who wish to represent Burngreave Juniors through 2004. We shall be doing this in and around Easter," adds Patrick Edwards, team coach.

Until then watch this space, because for some lucky kids Burngreave football will mean a chance of going places.
