Burngreave JobLink
by Rob Smith
"Great things have been achieved by the staff and
workers at our local JobLink," was the word and Tony Hall explained
to me some of the success stories they've had.
"For example, Rob, five of the new local community
wardens now patrolling Burngreave came through this office, and
when we held a job fair at nearby forum house we were amazed when
over 170 people from the community attended."
There are many different ideas and initiatives being employed by
JobLink this year to help more local people into employment and
return to work.
"We have a lone parent adviser who will award
benefits to assist people with seeking work and then opening doors
for them to get family tax credits."
Family Tax Credits make low paid jobs worthwhile, by adding money
to make a low wage increase, lone parents and families are better
off than being on state benefits.
"We are also developing a strong working relationship
with the new Community Education Co-ordinators. Between them and
ourselves we will set up a job and further education workshop
inside local schools to help parents access further education
and develop job skills."
"This will be followed up by a grand Jobs Fair for 2004."
Added Tony smiling broadly.
