Spending doubled to clean up Burngreave

More resources than ever are going into cleaning up Burngreave. That was the message from the Council’s Street Force Service at the public meeting of the Area Panel on 2nd October.

The Council has doubled the amount it is spending on tackling litter and fly tipping in the area. This should make a real difference to cleanliness across Burngreave, Firs Hill, Shirecliffe and Fir Vale. On top of this the Area Panel has funded Bring Out Your Rubbish Days across the whole area and Burngreave New Deal for Communities has funded an extra Clean Team in their area.

You can help!

The Area Panel wants to work with you to make sure we get the best out of all these extra resources. We need your help to let us know where the problems are and to help keep your area clean. It’s easy to get involved. You can:

  • Call Street Force on 273 4567 and let them know about litter problems in your area.
  • Organise a local clean up, it’s easy to do just call us on 213 5498 and we will provided you with every thing you need including gloves, bin bags and litter pickers.
  • Become a Burngreave Streetcarer and watch out for your street. Call us on 213 5498 and we will give you all the help you need to make sure your street is looked after properly.
  • Make the most of your Bring Out Your Rubbish Day.

The final message is don’t drop litter. The Area Panel will be launching an anti-littering campaign in January. We are currently running a competition in local schools to design the posters.

Look out for the winners in the February edition of the Messenger.
