SYAC - coming back to the community
by Gaby Spinks, Andrew Green and Martin
Currie
SYAC (South Yorkshire African Caribbean
Business and Enterprise Training Centre) is a busy set of
workshops and offices that has hosted many community organisations
and businesses since 1991.
Started due to the feeling that ethnic minorities
were not being given the same opportunities as other community
groups, in 1994 it went into receivership and the management
of the Centre was taken over by Sheffield City Council. This
crisis is long past and it is now time for the community to
take the reins back. A public meeting is being organised at
SADACCA to discuss these options and to build a new management
team.
SYAC manages the office and workshop space for
all the organisations featured as well as running business
advice and training sessions.
Please call the business development manager
Bernadette Grocock for information on becoming involved with
the new management team, or help and advice with running your
own business.
