The Winners
On Monday 20th September, all roads led to Whiteways
School, where the winners of Burngreave’s first
ever inter-primary school cricket tournament received
medals. Whiteways twelve-strong team had beaten St Catherine’s
in a thrilling final on the day.
More Cricket For 2004
Steve Taylor arrived from Jamaica in 1973 and became
an apprentice engineer. He took sports and recreation
qualifications and became involved in local sports.
Steve went on to teach physical education at the former
Earl Marshall School.
“I was also involved with the Caribbean sports
facility and I helped to establish the former Devon
Malcolm School for cricket, alongside Chris Searle and
Owen Gittens.”
Along with his colleague, Sajid, Steve is now leading
the way for further cricket activity for Burngreave
and surrounding area. They are working together to create
Burngreave’s first under 11s cricket team that
will play in Sheffield Under 11s Cricket League.
Training is presently taking place every Monday and
Wednesday at Earl Marshal Sports Centre 6–7pm.
This initiative is supported by Burngreave Sports Development
team sponsored by BNDfC. For any further information
or to get involved please contact Katy Burnett or Jeffrey
Maltby on 249 1626.
