Groups gathered together at Verdon Street last month to
celebrate the success of the summer’s play activities.
Loads of kids enjoyed the long summer days having fun at local
clubs and playgrounds and adventures further afield. Groups had
worked hard to secure funding, some right up to the last minute,
and this was a chance to have a good gossip, a slice of cake and
share thoughts for the future.
The summer was full of success stories. Staff at Burngreave
Out of School Club were praised by Positive Action for Young Children
for their inclusive playwork, the Adventure Playground had their
busiest summer ever and the Burngreave Sports Project reported
on growing community involvement.
Nearly all the groups said they were struggling with increasing
amounts of monitoring and paper work. Issues for the future included
getting more girls involved in sport and feedback from the community
was that the publicity needed to be more child friendly and available
in other languages.
