Burngreave Goes To Skegness
by Rob Smith

At 9am on 16th August, Melrose Road bore witness to the arrival of five long white luxury coaches fully booked for a trip to Skegness.

Sunny Skegness quickly enveloped our two hundred and fifty into the many thousands already there. Razzmatazz, bright coloured beach mats, pictures, trinkets and fancy dressed clowns. Candlelight music, jingling with shrills and screams.

Bright lights attracting youth through the shiny doors of amusement arcades. Fun fairs for toddlers and donkey rides along the beach. Fast food outlets, four on every block, topping the price fixed menu: fried fish, greasy chips and mushy lime-green peas. Pink candyfloss, shrimps, cockles and mussels.

I caught sight of our BNDfC team inside a famous watering hole. A drink and a chat before a suggestion to hunt down those from Burngreave. We found them just in time for our return journey, which was going to be an anti-climax. So many wanted to stay longer and I’m sure like myself, thank all those who organised this event and would like them to do it all again next year.
