Family Support
Worker
(Somali speaking) Permanent, part-time
(18.5 hours per week)
£14,532 - £16,515 p.a.
Ref: B101/07/2003
We are looking for a fluent Somali speaker with substantial
social care training, a knowledge of child protection policies and
experience of working with children and families who are undergoing
difficulties and stress. Reporting to the Family Support Manager,
you will manage a caseload of eight or more families, delivering
parenting skills and working in partnership with other agencies
to prevent children being taken into care or placed on the child
protection register wherever possible. You will also concentrate
on finding ways of engaging ‘hard-to-reach’ families,
as well as conducting assessments and other one-off duties as required.
Some out-of-hours work will be necessary.
In addition, you will participate in the Sure Start programme itself,
attending team meetings, appraisals, training workshops and other
events, bringing your professional expertise to bear on a wide variety
of issues from staff development to evaluation of the programme.
Parental Involvement
Worker
Part-time, permanent
22 hours per week
£12,720 - £14,532 p.a. pro-rata
Ref: B101/09/2003
If you have professional or voluntary experience of working
with local parents and children - and you’re the sort of well-organised
person who enjoys working on their own initiative - this role could
suit you perfectly. You will ensure that parents are aware of the
Sure Start programme and will actively recruit local parents to
be involved in the programme. Having encouraged volunteers to step
forward, you will take part in their induction, training, supervision
and appraisal, arranging crèche facilities when needed and
acting as an advocate for parents within the Sure Start programme.
You will need to be a natural people-person and communicator, with
some basic computer skills and an understanding of child protection
issues. We particularly welcome applications from men, as they are
under-represented in this area of work.
Administrator
Full-time, permanent
£12,720 - £14,532 p.a.
Ref: B101/08/2003
Although your work will primarily be administration, typing, filing,
minute taking and reception duties, this is very much a team job,
where you will need to build relationships with a wide variety of
colleagues as well as the Management Board, parent groups, parents,
children and visitors to the offices. You will therefore need to
be a friendly, confident and welcoming type of person, as well as
being an experienced administrator with a good knowledge of Microsoft
Office and word-processing skills to RSA II or equivalent. Good
time management skills and knowledge of the local community will
be essential; knowledge of social care and diversity issues would
be useful.
Information
and Training Officer
Full-time, permanent
£12,270 - £13,335 p.a. pro-rata
Ref: B101/06/2003
With excellent IT skills, a knowledge of available training and
how to get training courses accredited and an ability to update
our website, you will work alongside our Parental Involvement Workers
to identify training opportunities in the area and training needs
of parents. You will create information leaflets, newsletters, flyers,
promotional materials etc. for the programme and be responsible
for ensuring staff and the public have regular updated information.
A good team player, you should relate well to parents and be confident,
friendly and flexible in your work. You will need to have a knowledge
of the community and resources available in the area along with
GCSE English (Grade C or above) or equivalent. With some experience
in website design and updating layout and information, the ability
to use PowerPoint to a good presentation standard is essential
