Sure
Start relaunch
Over
100 people from all Burngreave’s communities were hugely impressed
by the recent relaunch of Burngreave and Fir Vale Sure Start.
Programme Manager
Amanda Boughton-Brown set out the national targets for Sure Start:
Improving Social and Emotional Development; Improving Health; Improving
the Ability to Learn and Strengthening Families and Communities.
Amanda also referred to proposals for a Burngeave base for Sure
Start.
This was followed
by presentations by Sonia Graham, Family Support Team Manager; Sally
Penn, Early Years Manager; Janet McVeigh, Health and Parental Involvement
Co-ordinator. Sure Start Board chair, Andy Stockton, a local parent
himself, spoke of plans for more parental involvement.
Finally,
Howard Golding, welfare rights worker, spoke of the range of issues
addressed amongst the 80 or so cases a month that he supports in
his outreach advice work role. The food was particularly excellent
and a high-quality event was enjoyed by all.
