A
New Beginning For Firs Hill
by Rob Smith
The
forecast rain wasn’t going to stop the event of the day, all
roads leading to the grand opening of Firs Hill Primary School’s
new sports facility.
Approaching
the now familiar tiger emblazoned gates, the sound of young singing
voices caused me, and I guess those already present, to forget momentarily
that there was any rain falling from that afternoon sky.
After some of
the children took part in a game facilitated by Burngreave Sports
Development Team, headteacher Dina Martin was proud to announce
the time had arrived for the grand opening of the new sports facility
by Premiership referee Uriah Rennie. Cheers and applause sounded
out as the opening ceremony was completed, before people moved out
of the rain and into the school building.
Inside
we were greeted by stalls of sweets, cakes, and bric-a-brac, treasure
hunts, bouncy castles and many children’s games. Although
the forecast meant rain outside, inside Firs Hill Primary School
the sound of so much joy and laughter murmured the beginning of
spring and something of a new beginning for a new generation.
