Connecting
IT to Learning
At the
recent BITPart and Burngreave Community Learning Campaign event,
Sacha Bedding from the Stockton International Family Centre spoke
of their success in increasing access to computers within a diverse
community, and the hugely varied benefits it brought to people’s
education, work, creative and social lives. Sheffield College speakers
talked of the recent successes of students doing ‘on-line’
GCSE English courses they’d been running.
BITPart presented
their work on the Burngreave Community Wireless Network, and information
about IT training. During discussions of future plans, people called
for wider access to IT and the internet in a range of settings including
homes, and were supportive of plans for a major centre in the Vestry
Hall.
