All
Saints welcomes top US rap star
New
York rap and hiphop legend Jeru the Damaja visited All Saints Community
Centre recently to lend support to a unique creative industries
training initiative helping young local people further their careers.
Jeru was in
town to play the Tuesday Club at Sheffield University, where two
upcoming local DJs – Vital and Veteran – supported him.
Just 12 months ago, Vital (otherwise known as Jamie Edwards who
lives in Burngreave) and Veteran (Ezekiel Roberts from Gleadless)
were amongst 28 hopefuls who signed up for the Cultural Development
Programme. Playing the same show as Jeru demonstrates the help the
programme provided.
In April, organisers
The NonStop Foundation are holding a series of recruitment events.
They aim to find more talented and ambitious people to take part
in this year’s programme, and with hard work and determination
achieve as much as DJs Vital and Veteran have done.
Details of these
events can be obtained by ringing NonStop on
272 4753.
