Get Away Day Over 30 local people who aim to make a difference in Fir Vale met on a Saturday at the beginning of February to plan the next steps of their Fir Vale Community Forum.
Part of the day was spent working out how to make sure that all the people who live and work in Fir Vale know about the Forum and are able to get involved.
Family Panel At your last Area Panel meeting we heard from the people who organise and manage the different things that are available to help young children and families in Burngreave. Winston Campbell, Social Services Family Support, told us how his team would soon be based in Burngreave and Ian Clifford, Education Family Support, told us about the recent proposal to join his service with Social Services to make one organisation. Both of these things should make it make it easier for families and children where you live to get the help they need. Sawli Ondluvo, Out of School Network, Amanda Boughton-Brown, Burngreave and Fir Vale Sure Start and Gordon Henshaw, Young Children Service spoke about the work they are doing to help set up more places with childcarers and after-school clubs in Burngreave and also help those local people who find it difficult to pay for these. Seheli look to Futures I am happy to say that Sheffield Futures, the new agency that works with our young people, has offered to help the Seheli young women's group to run a photography project in May. The project aims to bring together young women from the Asian and Afro-Caribbean communities of Burngreave. This group applied to the Burngreave Area Panel Community Chest last year and unfortunately we could not fund them. Because your Area Panel thought what they want to do was a good idea we asked Sheffield Futures if they could help and they said that they would. So thanks to Sheffield Futures and we hope that the group will come along to an Area Panel meeting in the future to show what they have done. Stop press: Hostel protests The planning application for the change of use to the flats on Christchurch Road to a young persons' hostel is to be considered by the North and West Area Planning Board on Tuesday 4th March 2.00pm at the Town Hall. All your Burngreave Area Panel Councillors will be there to fight for the community's demands to oppose this application and stop yet another hostel opening in your community.
