Burngreave
Children’s Festive Party 2002
Music
and sounds of laughter came from Verdon Recreation Centre as over
a hundred under 10s celebrated the first all-inclusive Children’s
Festive Party. Following entertainment by Professor Nuts, children
then ate an array of fresh fruit, sandwiches and hot food, prepared
by community food outlets from around Burngreave.
While entertained
by DJ Chill-Out, the hour of 6pm marked the arrival of the stretch
limo. As the rain fell, the crowd ushered eagerly towards the door
to observe the arrival of Dr Abdul Shaif and Donovan Modest, who
both proudly stood in as the traditional children’s gift bearers.
A large orderly queue, closely monitored by staff, saw mothers and
children gathered in the rain to take turns at sitting inside the
long stretch limo, before moving back inside the Recreation Centre
to receive gifts.
