Longley
Park Sixth Form
by Sally Robinson
Following
a strong community campaign, Longley Park Sixth Form College
became official on 1st November 2002, and plans are progressing
for opening in September 2004.
So far,
a Governing Body has been appointed with Sir Hugh Sykes as
Chair and including community reps Sally Robinson from the
North East Parents Group and Sheryl Roberts from Community
North Forum. Kevin Clifford of Northern General Hospital,
Councillor Ibrar Hussain, Steve Robinson, Head of Chaucer
School and John Leam Head of Parkwood High are also Governors.
The Interim
Principal will be John Bishop who set up, doubled the intake
to, and widened participation in Josiah Mason Sixth Form College
in inner city Birmingham. The Principal post will be advertised,
with the appointment expected mid January and the successful
applicant in post by Easter. The building project will be
overseen by Ellis Williams Architects and AA Projects Project
Managers, both with a record of excellence in delivering Sixth
Form College buildings.
From the
new year the Sixth Form will be holding consultation meetings;
visiting schools, pupils and communities to consult on the
building and the shape and curriculum of the new Sixth Form.
I am proud
to be associated with the new Sixth Form as Governor and of
our work as a community in achieving this! If you want to
be involved contact me on 0114 242 0865.
