New head for Fir Vale

Children at Fir Vale Secondary moved into a brand new school this September. Headteacher Hugh Howe, (pictured) was highly involved in the details of planning the new building, resulting in a design which means that staff can stand at one end of the school and see everything that is happening throughout the school, leaving the young people with nowhere to hide from the bright searchlight of learning.

Hugh is famous for being Head of the only Government Fresh Start School to show improvements last year. This year saw an even higher percentage of children achieving 5 or more GCSEs at the school. It is to Hugh's credit that despite attempts to 'head-hunt' him to higher paid jobs, he has decided to stick with Burngreave to see the job out.
