Fir Vale Learning Centre Re-Opens After A Summer Of Building Work.Fir Vale Learning Centre, which was set up as part of the Spread Your Wings project, is now ready to open its doors again to local residents and community members as well as Sheffield College students. Situated in the former library of the old Fir Vale School, the Learning Centre was re-organised in August with considerable building work as the school vacated the building to move to impressive new premises nearby. As part of the re-opening, the centre is offering FREE internet access during specially arranged computer drop-in times. These drop-in sessions are available on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings (10:00am - 12:00 noon), and on a Thursday afternoon (1:30 - 3:30pm) throughout the college term. The centre has 15 computers all connected to the internet via Sheffield’s CITINET network of Learning Centres; the centre is also part of the wider national network of UK ONLINE centres. Member of the public can join the centre as drop-in users to access the computers for free, or they can enrol on one of the Sheffield College courses in IT, English or Maths. Becoming a member of the centre is a simple process, and Learning Centre staff are more than happy to help users take advantage of the vast range of opportunities available on the world wide web. Anyone wanting to find out more can either call in at the centre on Earl Marshal Road, or call Matthew Parkin (Learning Centre Manager) on 0114 2439391. |
