PLANNING A BETTER BURNGREAVE
Meetings have happened in Woodside and Fir Vale on the next Unitary Development Plan. This is the plan that says what you can build and use land and buildings for in Burngreave.
By doing this the plan will help change what your area will look like in the next 15 years. You can read more about the plan at Burngreave library, on the Council’s website or you can telephone 273 4157 for details.
What do you think are the problems in Burngreave and how can we solve them? There are two more dates when you can come and tell us what you think should be in the plan. The first two hours is for women only and after that anyone can drop in. From 6.30 to 8.30 pm we will be having a full public meeting so you can talk about issues and ask questions. The dates for the meetings are:
· Firshill Junior School, Orphanage Road on 11th March 2002 starting at 1.00 pm
· All Saint’s Community Centre, Lyon Close on 10th April 2002 starting at 3.00 pm
YOUTH HIT THE SLOPES
I am happy to tell you that your Fir Vale Youth group has been awarded £15,000 over 3 years from the Area Panel’s Neighbourhood Renewal Funds. Fir Vale Youth are based at Osgathorpe Park Pavilion and the money will help them in running weekend sessions for young people and include activities such as visiting the dry ski slope.
WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?
What is my Area Panel? Who is on it? What is it doing for me?
If you want to know more about your Area Panel then Marilyn King, our new Area Panel Support Worker, would like to come out to you or your group to talk about our work and answer questions. If you would like Marilyn to visit then you can sort this out by contacting her using the details at the top of the page.
FIR VALE JOB
We are busy recruiting to the new post of Fir Vale Neighbourhood Development Officer. They will be supporting the new Fir Vale community forum and be helping to get regeneration work off the ground. If you are interested then you can find more details in the full advert on page 16.
WHITEWAYS SAFE AND SOUND
Your Area Panel has been listening to your comments and this month told the Council’s Highways department to look again at its plans to improve road safety outside Whiteways School. The result is that you will get more road safety improvements than were planned including extra road humps. These will help to slow traffic down and make crossing Whiteways Road safer for you and your children.
You can meet your local Councillors at their regular surgeries. These are at:
· Burngreave Library, Spital Hill - every Saturday 11.00 to 12.00 pm
· Pakistani Advice Centre, 58 Owler Lane - every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of month 3.30 to 4.30 pm
· Firshill TARA Office, 11a Firshill Glade - Saturday 16th March 12.00 to 1.00 pm
