Windscreen 2001On Saturday the 20th of October the Windscreen 2001 video event was held in Abbeyfield Park. The Garden Rooms wind powered video projector started off with footage that had been shot the same afternoon in the park, put through a vision mixer with digital video effects and music. The response was terrific. Children were really pleased to see themselves on the screen, and they really played up to the camera. There then followed a series of locally produced short films, which were of astonishingly high quality. Sultan’s Garden about an amazing front garden that gathered crowds of passers by, Johnny Fantastic about a local boxer, and some highly creative films, Plunge from the Vincent Dance Theatre set in Ponds Forge and a short story about a goldfish that swam upside down. A second screen, presented by Gorilla Cinema, showed Under the Carpet by Moses Muwanga, a video exploring issues faced by Pakistani children shot in Netheredge. Popcorn was made and handed out by the Messenger team, Terry from the Fireside Co-operative who had supplied the wind power was presented with a birthday cake that got passed round. This was a really nice local event, and a nice surprise for those of us that went. I hope to see its return next year. |
