Neita Sisters complete
London Marathon
by Rob Smith
Recognition and fame has been beckoning for
local sisters Pauline and Annette Neita, who represented
Burngreave in the grueling London Flora Marathon.
“We had been inspired by Annette’s twin
sister Cathleen who’s been running for charity
for some years now,” explains Pauline. Both her
and Annette have been training in and around our community
since late last year for this year’s Marathon.
Having successfully achieved this goal and returned
safely to Burngreave, an interview with the Messenger
was on the cards.
“Oh, our muscles locked and seized up when we’d
finished, but this felt as good as the day and the whole
euphoria of the event. We enjoyed every moment,”
said Annette.
The cheers, applause and the atmosphere of the London
Marathon on 18th April was all the more overwhelming
as along with their sister Cathleen, they made up the
three Neita sisters who completed the arduous twenty-six
miles.
“We wish to thank all the people who sponsored
and supported us in raising money for our chosen charity,
London Sports Forum – raising money for disabled
people,” said Pauline.
“We reached our target and have raised well over
three thousand pounds between us,” added Annette.
The marathon was completed by the girls in under 6
hours 41 minutes, and on 20th April were awarded sports
achievement certificates for completing this year’s
full marathon.
Pauline and Annette will be out and about collecting
funds and that will complete their task.
