The South Yorkshire Forest is an exciting vision for our local
environment. Covering 195 square miles, the forest is a mix of wooded
landscapes, towns, cities, meadows and farmland, where people live
and work. The forest was launched in 1991 and is actively supported
by Barnsley MBC, Rotherham MBC, Sheffield City Council, the Countryside
Agency and the Forestry Commission.
Since its inception, huge changes have already been achieved. The
parnership aims to continue increasing woodland planting and management,
protecting wildlife, helping to brig in new jobs by assisting economic
regeneration and improving the quality of life for people living
in, working in or vising South Yorkshire.
National Tree Week is the Tree Council's festival to mark the start
of the tree planting season, and a nationwide celebration of trees
and woods.
National Tree Week: 26th November - 7th December 2003
