Woodside demolition begins...

...but people are still living here

“One housing officer has threatened that if we’re not out by December we’ll be sent to D Camp and hostels,” fretted Diane Rogan of Gray Street “I have two sons and me and my husband can’t take the two-roomed house they offered us and can’t afford to shell out £1,500 and wait to receive it months later.”

“I have seven children and fear for their safety. I don’t want to go to D Camp or a hostel. I want a house that can cater for my family like this one,”
- Mrs Deqa Yusuf also on Gray Street.

“We’re council tenants still paying rent and we had no water all last week. We’ve all been allocated 60 points which should make us all a priority. Every morning I just want to burst into tears,” added Val Stanley of Gray Street.

Linda Horsefield of Fox Street informed us that;

“Although we’ve been promised a relocation grant of £1,500 they say it must be spent and proof of receipts as evidence provided before receiving any of this money.”

Nellie Ramsey, resident for over eighteen years, purchased her property over two years ago.

“The money the Council are offering to repurchase the house is not enough to get another house like this Rob. I’ve also been given some sort of ultimatum that before being offered any property I must first settle for the purchase offer they’ve made. This leaves me with no bargaining power – I’m at their mercy.”

“We thought we could hold out for a better deal.”
