Sounds of summer
at the Winter Gardens
On 8th June Sheffield’s Winter Gardens were filled
with Indian Music.
Ellesmere Post Master Kamalbir Singh played violin and a Indian
organ called a harmonium for over two hours. Tabla player John Ball
accompanied him on the traditional drums.
Kamalbir encouraged the audience to sing along with a traditional
ghazal romantic Urdu poetry. The performance was one of the first
of a program of free concerts taking place at the Winter Gardens
on Sunday afternoons. Kamalbir will have a temporary break from
his day job at Ellesmere Post Office to play in America.
