The
Refugee Housing Association Team
This positive and celebratory purpose
of Refugee Week has become increasingly significant at a time when,
in the current media coverage, “any suggestion that asylum
seekers (and refugees) tend to be resourceful and determined people,
is lost in the politics of hate, fear and racism.” (The Independent
23.05.2003)
Planned events for the week in Sheffield
include – Workshops, exhibitions, stalls, concerts, a walk
in the Peak District, a picnic, a Kurdish film at The Showroom,
a football tournament, parties and an art competition.
As part of the Metropolitan Housing Trust
Group’s 40th anniversary, Refugee Housing Association are
organising a party to launch Refugee Week on 16th June at SADACCA
from 6pm, it will include an art competition to be judged and displayed
on the night.
