Open Up Burngreave
This year Burngreave became part of the
city-wide Open Up Sheffield, an annual event where artists invite
the public into their studios.
Abbeyfield Stables opened up its doors receiving
over 100 visitors who enjoyed an exhibition of local artist’s
paintings, photographs, crafts and sculpture, as well as demonstrations
and workshops from portrait drawing to playing the African balafons,
making peace prayer flags to juggling and unicycling.
Abbeyfield Stables is in a state of disrepair
and dereliction but its main building was cleared out and decorated
by volunteers so the exhibition could take place. Green City Action
has secured New Deal funding for Co-ordinator, Panni Poh Yoke Loh,
to raise capital funds for the Grade 2 Listed buildings and to run
a series of workshops in readiness for it becoming a Multicultural
Environment and Arts Education Centre. Visitors were consulted on
the sorts of educational courses and community activity they would
like the centre to hold.
