Dale Knight 1950–2003 Many will be shocked to hear of the passing of Dale Knight, who brought his kindness and good humour to so many campaigns and health projects in Burngreave. Professionally, many will remember Dale’s work at Osborn House for Social Services. Much later he still held open house for some of the most difficult families in the Rock Street area where he lived. Others will remember Dale’s ground-breaking work for the HIV and Sexual Health Centre and as a teenage pregnancy worker with boys and young men. It was also during this time that Dale was involved with setting up the Black Drugs Project, which has since gone from strength to strength. Others will remember Dale turning up during the crisis at the old Ellesmere School saying “Yes, the white cavalry have failed, now they’re putting in the black cavalry!” or limbo dancing at a social for the campaign against the Poll Tax. Dale was particularly passionate about raising funds for work on HIV and AIDS in Zimbabwe. Dale’s well-attended funeral took place on Tuesday, 21st January at Cemetery Road Baptist Church. Dale will be very much missed by his family, his close friends and the huge number of people who knew him and whose hearts he touched.
