NEW
YEAR RESOLVE
Your Burngreave
Area Panel’s Area Plan for this year is at its final stage
and will soon be printed. You helped put together the Area Plan
by coming along and having your say at the consultation events we
had across Burngreave last year. Some of the things we plan to do
this year include:
- Improve how
we work together with Burngreave and Fir Vale Community Forum’s
and New Deal for Communities
- Carry on
working with local people to help regenerate Fir Vale
- Help make
Carwood estate a better place to live
- Cleaning
up Burngreave environment and improve Spital Hill
- Work to make
Burngreave Vestry Hall in to a community building
- Help give
people of all ages more chances to exercise and improve their
health
- Improve how
we work with younger and older people
If you would
like a copy of the plan then please contact us at the Burngreave
Area Action Team office.
FUNDING
OUR FUTURE
Fir Vale Youth
Project, the Pakistani Community Association and Advice Centre and
Fir Vale Forum are all local projects that your Area Panel has been
able to help over the last year using money from Sheffield’s
Neighbourhood Renewal Fund. I would just like to let you know how
all the projects have got on in 2002.
Fir Vale Youth
Project has been able to run regular sessions for the 35 local young
people who meet at the Pavilion. Over the last year the young people
spent two months designing and creating a mural which was unveiled
by the Lord Mayor.
The Pakistani
Community Association and Advice Centre has been able to take on
Masarat Rahman as an Advocacy Worker and she started work in August.
Masarat offers translation, home visits, advice and guidance to
local people to help them use other services.
The Fir Vale
Forum has been supported by Mustafa Ahmed, Fir Vale Development
Worker and over the last 8 months he has worked with local people
to develop the Forum and its working groups. The Fir Vale Forum
has seen a lot of successes since setting up in July and these include
the work done with the Council to plan the improvement of local
houses and help clean up the area. On the 14th December the Forum
had its first public meeting to let people know about what they
have achieved and Bob Kerslake, Chief Executive of Sheffield City
Council was there to open the meeting.
CENTRE
FOR CHANGE
At your last
Area Panel meeting we talked about the issues on Carwood estate
and what your hopes were for Carwood Community Centre when it reopens.
Rebuild, a Sheffield
building firm that also trains local people and helps them get jobs,
will be starting work soon and plans of the building were shown
at the meeting. Workers from different groups put up displays and
showed a video made by local young people to help people think about
what Carwood Community Centre could be used for. People then talked
in small groups about what needed to happen and wrote down their
ideas.
We would like
to thank all of you who came along to have your say and we hope
that you will work with us over the next year to help get your community
centre up and running.
COMMUNITY
CHEST
The Burngreave
Area Panel Community Chest has opened its second round and is offering
