ROUND
ONE
The Area Panel met at the beginning of October to look at all of
the applications you had sent us for the first round of the Area
Panel’s Community Chest fund. There were some great ideas
from many of the different projects that are working hard to make
Burngreave a better place. The Area Panel could not give money to
everyone and it had to make some difficult decisions. This list
shows who was successful:
Friends of Osgathorpe
Park -To hire a marquee for fun day, £200
Trinity Methodist Church, Fir Vale - To buy a bench
for the public garden, £200. Firs Hill School Parents
Association - To paint a mural in the community room, £200.
Green City Action, Toy Box project - To buy toys to lend
out to children, £200. Raising Self Esteem for Young
People with Physical Impairment, Fir Vale School - Give
young people a trip to Magna Centre, £150. Whiteways
School Parents Group - To painting a mural in the community
room, £100. SHURA Arabic Group - To help
work with adult Asian women, £100. Grimesthorpe Community
Garden - To get a skip to help clear up allotments, £130.
Friends of Burngreave Chapel and Cemetery - To
buy tea urn to make drinks for volunteers, £120. TOTAL £1400
We wish all the projects
good luck in their work and will be using an Area Panel meeting
later next year to let you know about how they have got on. If you
did not get an application in this time you will be glad to know
that there will be another chance at the end of this year when we
have the second round of the Burngreave Area Panel Community Chest.
Look out for details on posters and in the Burngreave Messenger.
GET
OUT MORE
As you may have seen and heard your Area Panel has been busy getting
out and about with you to see what the problems are where you live
and help you get them sorted out.
In late September Councillor
Jackie Field, Chair of Burngreave Area Panel, was out with Firshill
Tenants and Residents Association (TARA) and Council workers on
the Firshill estate and Roe Wood. Jean Hayden, the Chair of Firshill
TARA, and other residents lead us round and showed us the problems
that they were having. The Council workers are now working to tackle
these problems and Firshill TARA will be keeping a check on how
they are doing.
At the end of September
all of your Area Panel went with Tammy Pear, the Chair of Fir Vale
Community Forum, as they showed Sheffield City Council’s Leader
Cllr. Jan Wilson and Chief Executive Bob Kerslake round Fir Vale.
As they went round local people showed them the problems with you
have to live with like poor housing, dumped cars, litter and traffic.
You also told them about the crime and drugs problem that Fir Vale
suffers. Jan Wilson and Bob Kerslake were both concerned at what
they saw and are keen to work with the Fir Vale Forum and Area Panel
to help make a change.
BURNGREAVE
CELEBRATES
At your last Area Panel meeting on 16th October the Lord Mayor gave
out the first Streetforce Environment Awards to celebrate the work
that local people and groups had done to make Burngreave greener
and cleaner. The awards are a new idea and are a way for the Area
Panel and Streetforce to say thank you to local people. This year’s
awards went to:

and Residents Association - Gold Award

Green City Action - Silver Award
Parkwood Landfill Action Group - Silver Award
Friends of Burngreave Cemetery - Bronze Award
